Manika Sheokand, who won the title of VLCC Femina Miss Grand India 2020 shared that she always dreamt about becoming a beauty queen, but never thought she would be one some day. She has a beautiful message for all the young ladies out there.
“Like many girls, I always dreamt about becoming a beauty queen, but never thought I would be one some day,” says an elated Manika, who was VLCC Femina Miss India Haryana 2020, started modelling in 2019. “It was my elder sister who convinced me that I should participate in the pageant. I always thought that winning the crown was a dream I could never achieve, but I think once I participated in the pageant, I learnt to be myself, to have more confidence in myself and that helped me win. Now that I am here, I would like to tell all those girls out there that if they have a secret dream, do not give up on it. There is nothing that you cannot achieve if you believe in yourself,” says Manika, who feels that her experience as a model helped her prepare for the title. “I think one’s life experiences make one confident and they really help in your personality development. I feel that my experience as a model was my strength and that helped me prepare better for this pageant,” she says.
Femina Miss India Uttar Pradesh Manya Singh who was crowned as Femina Miss India- Runner-up, is the daughter of a rickshaw driver and people across the country are praising her for her hard work, persistence and achievement.
Manya had earlier opened up about the struggles and challenges she faced on the road to success, with an aim to motivate others by using the platform provided by Miss India to talk about her journey. “My blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into courage to pursue my dreams,” she said in a post shared by the official Instagram handle of Miss India back in December.
She had to spend numerous nights without food and sleep, walk miles just to save a few rupees. She didn’t get the opportunity to go to school because of poverty. In order to earn money, she cleaned the utensils and floor while working as a dishwasher. However, her efforts did not go in vain and she managed to break the chain of poverty. Now she is Miss India 2020 Runner Up.
“I’ve spent numerous nights without food and sleep. I’ve spent many afternoons walking for miles on end. My blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into courage to pursue my dreams. Being a rickshaw driver’s daughter, I never had the opportunity to attend school as I had to start working in my teens. All the clothes I had were hand-me-downs. I yearned for books, but luck wasn’t in my favor. Eventually, my parents mortgaged whatever little jewelry my mother had to ensure that I paid my exam fees in order to earn a degree. My mother has suffered a lot to provide for me. At 14, I ran away from home. I somehow managed to complete my studies in the day, became a dishwasher in the evening and worked at a call center at night. I’ve walked hours to reach places so I could save the rickshaw fare. I am here today at the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 stage to uplift my father, my mother, and my young brother and to show the world that all is possible if you are committed to yourself and your dreams,” said Manya Singh.
She has imbibed the same value of unconditional love and respect for people irrespective of their background and believes that education is the strongest weapon one can have with themselves at all times. Doted on by her mother, she has won the Best Student award during her HSC, Manya is now preparing for further education in Management studies. Having faced a lot of hardships, she has struggled a lot in life till date, from not being able to pay her school fees, not being able to afford books and being neglected by her classmates for being an auto driver’s daughter. She was criticised for her looks and was disregarded by others for not being able to speak fluently like others. However, it was this very difficult time in her life that helped her, motivated her and pushed her towards her passion to work harder to achieve what she deserves. Her journey is an inspiration to many who are willing to change their destiny, create the future that they want and are not ready to give up even when life gets really rough.
The jury panel of the pageant comprised actors Neha Dhupia, Chitrangada Singh, Pulkit Samrat and famous designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock.
