Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide at his Mumbai home on Sunday (today) morning. The 34 years old actor debuted in Bollywood with Kai Po Che! and was last seen in Chhichhore and Netflix film Drive. He was found hanging at his Bandra (Mumbai) home earlier this morning. Some of his friends were also at home when his body was discovered and the door to his room was broken and he was found hanging, according to sources. A domestic help alerted the police. As per the initial reports from the police, he was suffering from depression for the past six months. His friends also told Aaj Tak that the reason behind this extreme step is depression. A suicide note has not been recovered yet from his residence.
Depression is a common mental health problem that causes people to experience low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, self harm, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration, among others.
Research indicates that mental illnesses such as depression, psychoses, personality disorders and substance use are associated with an increased risk of suicide. Experiencing risk factors does not necessarily mean a person will think about or attempt to take their own life. However, Protective factors can reduce suicide risk, particularly effective mental health care, counselling, social support and connectedness. If you feel depressed, it is important to speak up as it might help you see things more clearly for yourself.
Soon after the shocking news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death came out, actor Arjun Kapoor took to social media to share details of ‘suicide prevention helpline’. “If you are feeling distressed, or having thoughts about ending your life please, please reach out for support. This does not have to be the end,” he wrote in a tweet.
Sushant’s death comes barely a week after his former manager Disha Salian committed suicide last Monday by jumping off the 14th floor of her apartment in Mumbai. “It’s such devastating news. My deepest condolences to Disha’s family and friends. May your soul rest in peace,” Sushant had said.
Condolences poured in from all quarters for the highly-talented young Bollywood actor who won several awards for his roles in movies like M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, PK and Kedarnath.
